Yamileth Angulo's researches focus on the biochemical characterization and the mechanism of action of proteins in snake venoms, like phospholipase A2 which is responsible for the myotoxic effect in envenomings caused by snakebites from the Viperidae family, as well as the disintegrins found in snake venoms. Another research subject has been the search and biochemical characterization of phospholipase-inhibitor molecules, both natural and synthetic. She is part of a group of researchers from the Clodomiro Picado Institute whose most recent research topics is the proteomics analysis of venoms in Costa Rica.

Furthermore, she was the director of the Biochemistry Department of the School of Medicine, and the deputy director of the School of Medicine. In later years she was the director of the Clodomiro Picado Institute from 2004 to 2012, and today she is a member of the University Council of the University of Costa Rica.
