Awards and Recognitions

The trajectory and prestige of the Clodomiro Picado Institute can be confirmed by the awards it has been granted throughout the years. These accolades give credit to the knowledge developed through research with social purposes, to the beneficial academic link created with future generations of scientists and researchers in the country, and to the leadership the Institute has attained in the subject of ophidism and antivenom production.

Some of the awards received throughout its more than 40 years of existence, are:

 

1980 National Award in Science (José Maria Gutiérrez Gutiérrez), National Council for Scientific and Technological Research, Costa Rica.
1986 National Award in Science (Bruno Lomonte Viglioti), National Council for Scientific and Technological Research, Costa Rica.
1990 TWAS-CONICIT Award for Young Costa Rican Scientists (José María Gutiérrez), The Academy  of Sciences for the Developing World and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Research, Costa Rica.
1995 Designated CITES Scientific Authority, International Convention for the Trade of Endangered Species.
1996 Award for the Contribution to Improve the Quality of Life, National Board of Chancellors and the Department of Protection of Citizens' Rights, Costa Rica
1996 Designated Reference Center for Ophidism in Central America, Network of Ministries of Health in Central America.
1997 TWAS-CONICIT Award for Young Costa Rican Scientists (Bruno Lomotte Viglioti), The Academy  of Sciences for the Developing World and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Research, Costa Rica.
1997 Sven Brohult Award (José María Gutiérrez), International Foundation for Science 
2003 National Award in Science (Marietta Flores Díaz), National Council for Scientific and Technological Research, Costa Rica.
2007 Acknowledgment of Clinical Research from the Pfizer Science Institute.
2009 TWAS-CONICIT Award for Young Costa Rican Scientists (Mahmood Sasa Marín), The Academy  of Sciences for the Developing World and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Research, Costa Rica.
2009 National Award in Technology (Guillermo León Montero), National Council for Scientific and Technological Research, Costa Rica.
2010 Entrepreneurship Award in the TIC Americas contest, Young Americas Business Trust and Organization of American States.
2011 Public Health Award in memoriam of Dr. Lee Jong-Wook, World Health Organization.
2014 National Award in Science (Laura Monturiol Gross), National Council for Scientific and Technological Research, Costa Rica.
