José Ma. Gutiérrez, CPI, Seeks Better Care for Snakebite Victims

Dr. José Ma. Gutiérrez Gutiérrez, researcher of the Clodomiro Picado Institute (CPI) of the University of Costa Rica (UCR) participated last Thursday in a panel parallel to the World Health Assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland, denominated Science, State & Society: An Integrated Global Initiative to Reduce Snakebite Death & Disability, which included the participation of 120 people from different countries.
The Minister of Health, Dr. Fernando Llorca Castro and the diplomatic delegation of Costa Rica in Geneva proposed this activity to the WHO, and it obtained the support of representatives from Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Gabon, Guinea, Kenya, Namibia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Senegal and Uganda.
Dr. José Ma. Guitérrez Gutiérrez introduced the model that Costa Rica has followed to face the snakebite problem which involved the participation of the Clodomiro Picado Institute.
