Julián Fernández studies the proteomic composition of snake envenomings and the mechanisms of action of the toxins in these venoms. He studied the proteomic composition of the venoms of at least 7 species of snakes, as well as the isolation, sequencing, and characterization of at least 3 previously unknown proteins from different venoms of snakes in Costa Rica. Today he studies the mechanism of action of myotoxins in snake venoms, as well as the characterization and study of important toxins in snake venoms.
