In light of the increasing number of crocodile sightings in urban areas, and of snakes in different locations across the country, the Clodomiro Picado Institute of the UCR developed a training program for rescue teams to handle and rescue dangerous reptiles.
Recently, 16 fire fighters were trained at the Estación Biológica La Selva in Sarapiqui, and 12 more at the Estación Biológica de Palo Verde, in Cañas, Guanacaste. A total of 85 members of rescue teams have been trained in five classes, and they are waiting for two more trainings that will take place in the following months.
